The Dog ignored the proceedings, some heads yawning, some panting with tongues lolling under the hot television lights. Five leash chains occasionally rattled as one head or the other moved, or the body twitched.

The Human was a different matter—he twitched more.A year of court battles had ended in defeat, and the final papers had been served. It remained only to suffer this one last news conference, and to make a desperate effort in the name of Science — all this despite fading public interest.
