You don't have to be a good photographer to make good pictures... You don't need a good camera either (lol) I took this picture about twp years ago on a beautiful day in Nashville.   It's a pretty good picture but it was a pretty cheap phone and it could us...

Any thoughts?

I used a program called FotoSketch for this #sketchgurusaturday submission. It's about as cool as a orange dreamsicle but as slow as check in the mail. Seriously, each rendering of this picture took almost half an hour. Of course if you pair that up with a bottle of fine Tennessee sipping Whisky the results can be pretty, well pretty...

Maybe not as pretty as Christina Lihani, Amanda Wyckoff or paula contreras or course, but almost as cool as Oscar Lovett.

Does music move you ? Does photography ?

Does music move you ? Does photography ?
This is a short story about capturing and sharing. You can read the story or watch the TED Talk. I did both.

I've Been Waiting To Share This With You ALL For a LONG Time! It is THE Single Most Important Thing I've Ever Undertaken, and I Hope You Will LOVE It!

What you are about too see is a culmination of my entire life. Not simply my life's work, but its purpose.
Much is explained in the video you are about to see, which is a TEDx Talk I was #blessed   to be invited to give in #Manhattan at TEDxFultonStreet  on the very same stage that Inside The Actors Studio is filmed. ( A pretty rad experience to hang in the same green room that everyone from Martin Scorsese to Julia Roberts spent time in at one point or another. (I may or may not have sorta turned that room into my own private Green-room, as it wasn't actually being used... But hey.. I was about to step on the world stage of TEDx ...and I needed a lil meditation time.. a lil me time. :p

But the place isn't important, the only thing of importance is that this video and the work you are about to see is the culmination of a life long dream

I mean that in no small way.. literally a lifelong dream, for when I was a little kid we..my friends and I would sit around after being blown away by Elvis, KISS, and other things and people... scientists...inventors, all of which made us say WOW! We would fantasize about how we too could make other people feel something amazing when we grew up!

I've always wanted to move people at their core, to illicit change, foster understanding and compassion, and to do so through something I've been in love with since I can remember! Photography. But it had to be something unique.. something undeniably 'WOW" Something worthy of paying 'homage' to all those who'd gone before me and made things that made me say that one magical word..."wow!"

I finally figured out a way to do so....and to do so by taking the things I love most in life: sharing, expression, and music and by combining them with my greatest love of all: photography, I'd finally create something that has never been done before.. something that would celebrate not only music and photography but would celebrate the amazing feelings, the incredible possibilities, the joy, the sheer evaporation of feelings of loneliness or being misunderstood that can only be realized through the art of sharing.

The Video Explains it Mostly... But There is More Id Like YOU to Know:

The premise is simple... photograph people who've achieved great things, celebrities from all walks of life, musicians, actors, inventors, scientists, athletes... and ask them to share ONE song they are absolutely passionate about, perhaps it got them through cancer ( Id like to stop right here to simply say #FUC %CANCER ) or perhaps its the song that pressed them on through the toughest of times, or the song they finally launched their career to.. maybe this song was playing in the background.. maybe its a song that reminds them of a simple time..
We sit down, and talk about it for a few moments.. then.. the magic happens. We both strap on headphones, and we listen to it together, as I photograph them.

As I'm photographing them, I have a second camera in sync with the first one, that is pointed at the CD player... it is recording each time I make an image of the subject. The times-tamp from the song ( photographed with that second camera) then becomes the title of the image, along with the subjects name, and title of the song.  This will allow the viewer to connect to the exact moment that the image was made.. the exact instance the emotion struck home. And to connect in a way never before done, and hopefully in a manner that feels special.. magical.. and .. truly makes the person feel a part of whats being shared.

This is an important project for me, because in trying to make it come together... and here I feel its the perfect time to give a hardy heart felt show of appreciation for Guns N Rose*s very own... the venerable incredible.. sheer virtuoso of a musical genius.. and I say that with no small amount of exaggeration.. Ron Thal A.K.A *"Bumblefoot" , without whose understanding and sheer tireless devotion to the day of shooting.. and his belief in me.. this would never have happened.. and I may have easily given up. Much love brother. Much love!

It is an important project for me.. because I want kids to understand.. someone out there gets it.. they may have been there too.. or hey.. they may just share the same goofy passion for an odd song. I want people to feel connected.. to one another.. to art.. to music..

We are after-all, all juts vibrations of energy. And music.. is a vibration of sound, photography a vibration of light. SO is it ANY surprise how powerful a change we can experience.. when we share these vibrations? It's through this sharing.. through this #SixBeatsOfSeparation   ... that I hope to bring people together to vibrate at a frequency that makes us all realize, how truly in harmony..we.. as human beings can, should and were absolutely BORN.. TO be.

Three is much more to come...and Ill need your help and support!!!
If I've moved you...intrigued you...or entertained you...I ask you to please...spread the word.

Coming this summer will be a website where stories of these shoots will be fully documented, videos and photographs will live.. people will write in their own stories about music and how its moved them.. and MOST importantly..
Prints and posters will be available for purchase. Which I'm very proud to say will be provided through the amazingly skilled people at NYC's own Fine Print NYC! Who have partnered up with me as they believe in the project, and being the awesome New Yorkers they are have helped me bring this to fruition!
Each one sold.. will have its proceeded donated to the charity of each celebrity subjects choice...and that is the greatest gift of all!

I can NOT wait to share this journey with you all and am SO SO happy to have the opportunity to have you here TO share with!

Fund Raising - selling my prints

Hi everyone, this is something I would not normally do, but I have thought long and hard about it and have decided to share this. 2 weekends ago the most painful thing happened to me while I was out on a photowalk with some visiting photographer friends. While taking a long exposure shot by the coast, a sudden gust of wind blew my tripod, Canon 5D Mark III and 17-40mm lens into the water.  The camera fell and hit the rocks so hard that the lens broke off from the camera body. Everything happened so fast. I had made sure my tripod was steady after the setup unfortunately as I turned to get my filter, in a split second the wind knocked my tripod over, fell a good 6 ft, hitting the rocks. The next thing I knew, my camera was already in the water, I was in a state of shock, stood there helpless as I watched the waves went over the exposed camera body. I climbed down the slippery rocks as fast as I could, picked up the tripod, pick up my lens and my camera and as I poured the salt water out from the broken body, It was painful as I felt like I lost a part of me. It was painful when I rinsed the body with distilled water to clean out the salt water and bits of seaweed when I got home. It was only camera I owned. I sent the camera and lens immediately to Canon the next day, with the hopes I could have them repaired at an affordable price. Unfortunately, I received news they could not be saved due to salt water damage.  The timing could not have happened at a worse time, as I am planning to pursue Architecture photography full time once my day job ends in September.  Due to some financial setbacks, its tough for me to get a new full frame camera and replacement lens for now. So I am hoping to raise some funds in exchange of my prints. I do not expect to raise the amount I am looking for, but any funds from my purchased prints would help in every way.

Please do take a look at my funding page for more details and pricing on the prints. Thank you all again for your support in my work!! Really appreciate it!!!
