Hi

Hi
I really did like the pokeymon-go picture. I was going to a comment about the picture and hadn't even given the caption much thought. Then I noticed the "fat" thread and lost track of my impressions. I guess where I'm headed with this is to say that while some of the responses might not be what you expected, they felt like strong emotional responses. Like maybe - you touched a nerve. Not the one you expected but you still really did touch one (or two).
That leads me to say - Wow ! That's a really powerful picture and post !
Rick, you might get some good feedback if you share pix here.

(then I can say all those things that I really think about your pictures)
just kidding
LOL

I do like it when people say nice things about my pictures. Sometimes though it's better to get a different perspective. I encourage everyone to feel free to make suggestions or impressions to allow me to learn - especially in areas where I need improvement.

I understand that most folks feel uncomfortable doing that though so I'm going to post a link to a community I'm in where that is not only allowed, it's required. It's called Behind the Lens and please, come take a look at it. Also, go ahead and say something about this post. Do you like one more than the other ? Do you like it or hate it when peeps post multiple versions of images ? Was this post sort of tl;dr ?

Here's a simple cell phone shot of a small skylight in a small atrium area at the VA hospital. Very minimal editing on the dark one and just a "negative" filter and simple desaturate on the "hi-key" one..
Please feel free to comment/critique/criticise any aspect of this post. I myself prefer the dark one, but I don't know why. What do you think ?

I think this pretty much covers the "leaves" idea.

Peeps who know my take on grates know that I favor the "other side" of the grate. I just happened to like both sides of one of these great grates.

I liked Rachel Ferris picture so much that I had to try my hand at it. Of course since I'm left-handed I had to do it backwards. Instead of cell phone picture of my computer, I took a webcam shot of my phone.

So first I had to find the camera. Thanks kitties, I needed the exercise anyway. Then I had to try to remember how to turn it on. I finally gave up and pretended to take a new fb profile picture and screen grabbed it with Screenpresso. Then I threw just about everything that Pixlr had to throw at it. There's some engraving, embossing and half toning as well as some posterizing and water swirling on a couple of layers and a mirror (horizontal) flip at the end.
And FTR - I love the new phone, but the camera is yucky. It's a Galaxy Core Prime and it really was thirty bucks from Straight Talk. If anybody knows a good camera app, holler back y'all.

On January 9, 1839, The French Academy of Sciences announced the daguerreotype process. A few months later, on August 19, 1839, the French government purchased the patent and announced the invention as a gift "Free to the World".

Do you bokeh ?

Do you bokeh ?

Originally shared by ted kelly

I played around with bokeh a lot last week. I started with all bokeh, but then without some clear element it's just too much. Then I danced around adding just a bit and then some more and threw in some plain old blur to sort of frame the bokeh parts. I went all the way to the "Fly" and had just one itty bit of it but that just didn't feel like enough.
So I chose the one that I felt had the best looking bokeh and used it to advance the notion that there is a story here. I hope the dreamy look of the picture ties in to the look of wide eyed amazement on my little owl buddy.
My first solid idea was the hedge trimmer one. I noticed the light shining off the leaves and thought - BOKEH ! So I set up a tripod and stuck on a lens hood, grabbed my remote and went back to work. You know how it goes though. I always look at any of my pictures and say. "I know I can do better". (sometimes I'm even right)

Bokeh can be and will be interpreted by the viewer. Is it "good" or "bad" and does it dominate the composition ? Is it there for a reason or is it just a byproduct of the conditions and optics ? Does it add to the story or is it a distraction ?

I enjoyed this week maybe a little too much. I'll link some "also ran" shots in "Discussion" later.

Liking Things That Aren't True ?

Liking Things That Aren't True ?
I hate being wrong I don't mind changing my opinion about things. "Live and Learn" is good advice. My mother always said though, that I'd rather be right than president. So when I find out that I was wrong, it just bugs me (a lot). I guess that's why I get ...
