Thanks. It was really hard to keep from shredding her replies and even harder than that not to tear into her on a more personal level.

Thanks. It was really hard to keep from shredding her replies and even harder than that not to tear into her on a more personal level.
It wouldn't have made even a tiny dent in her hard head though. And I try to behave myself on other peeps posts.
Personally, I think she could use some therapy. (or something)

No "theme", no #hashtag and for no particular reason.
Just on account of because.
I bought an old motorcycle so I could just stop wherever I wanted to and take a picture, right ? So yesterday I tossed a tripod, a couple of cameras and a speedlight in the basket and just went for a ride.
It doesn't take all that much to make me happy.
How are you going to carve out a little happiness today ?

#wordlessonwednesday

#wordlessonwednesday

It was a dark & stormy night muggy overcast afternoon and I went out and braved the heat to capture a #grateartwednesday shot. The clouds were bearing down and time was short but I went high and I went low. I shot it from the right and I shot it from the left. I went all the way around this darn thing trying to get just the right picture for Grate Art Wednesday.

That's right Gary Posner. I was circling the drain.

When I lived in Tennessee I saw some odd graves. Some people called them "witches graves" and they had two long slabs of stone as the main feature. I discovered they were called tent graves and were intended not so that the witches could come and go, but to keep kids and crittters out tof the graves.

So now I'm back in Florida where the sugar sand is even softer. I noticed these in one cemetery and this one in particular caught my eye. Pvt. Jacksons given name is on the headstone but it looks like his nickname was stamped into the concrete.

This episode - All Better ?

This episode - All Better ?

I did this one a little differently. I wrote it out and just took the first try, as is, and ran with it.

I was drawn to a Yahoo News item yesterday and noticed that the headline and comments were immediately available but the news story itself was not so easy to find. Hmmm...

I've avoided Yahoo almost from the beginning. I swear I can smell brimstone in every nook and cranny. Headlines and comments - that's just messed up.

Good morning and a happy #circleshapesmonday to everyone.

The Google Page That Google Haters Don’t Want You to Know About

https://lauren.vortex.com/2017/04/20/the-google-page-that-google-haters-dont-want-you-to-know-about

There’s a page at Google that dedicated Google Haters don’t like to talk about. In fact, they’d prefer that you didn’t even know that it exists, because it seriously undermines the foundation of their hateful anti-Google fantasies.

A core principle of Google hatred is the set of false memes concerning Google and user data collection. This is frequently encapsulated in a fanciful “You are the product!” slogan, despite the fact that (unlike the dominant ISPs and many other large firms) Google never sells user data to third parties.

But the haters hate the idea that data is collected at all, despite the fact that such data is crucial for Google services to function at the quality levels that we have come to expect from Google.

I was thinking about this again today when I started hearing from users reacting to Google’s announcement of multiple user support for Google Home, who were expressing concerns about collection of more individualized voice data (without which — I would note — you couldn’t differentiate between different users).

We can stipulate that Google collects a lot of data to make all of this stuff work. But here’s the kicker that the haters don’t want you to think about — Google also gives you enormous control over that data, to a staggering degree that most Google users don’t fully realize.

The Golden Ticket gateway to this goodness is at:

google.com/myactivity

There’s a lot to explore there — be sure to click on both the three vertical dots near the upper top and on the three horizontal bars near the upper left to see the full range of options available.

This page is a portal to an incredible resource. Not only does it give you the opportunity to see in detail the data that Google has associated with you across the universe of Google products, but also the ability to delete that data (selectively or in its totality), and to determine how much of your data will be collected going forward for the various Google services.

On top of that, there are links over to other data related systems that you can control, such as Takeout for downloading your data from Google, comprehensive ad preferences settings (which you can use to adjust or even fully disable ad personalization), and an array of other goodies, all supported by excellent help pages — a lot of thought and work went into this.

I’m a pragmatist by nature. I worry about organizations that don’t give us control over the data they collect about us — like the government, like those giant ISPs and lots of other firms. And typically, these kinds of entities collect this data even though they don’t actually need it to provide the kinds of services that we want. All too often, they just do it because they can.

On the other hand, I have no problems with Google collecting the kinds of data that provide their advanced services, so long as I can choose when that data is collected, and I can inspect and delete it on demand.

The google.com/myactivity portal provides those abilities and a lot more.

This does imply taking some responsibility for managing your own data. Google gives you the tools to do so — you have nobody but yourself to blame if you refuse to avail yourself of those excellent tools.

Or to put it another way, if you want to use and benefit from 21st century technological magic, you really do need to be willing to learn at least a little bit about how to use the shiny wand that the wizard handed over to you.

Abracadabra!

Sending from phone as the laptop interface makes it hard to pm...
Yes I will get to the point soon where talking about things is on my "plan". Thanks for the offer. My phone is on my profile too. People always seem horrified when I tell them that but it's never yet been a problem.
Anyways-
The thing I was mentioning is (to me anyway) humorous in an ironic sort of way. I find humor helps me process difficult things but I know that it often makes others misunderstand me.
So here goes...
We were having a talk about the potential harmful attributes of always wanting to help. I still don't buy that it's a bad thing but I can't ignore the fact that it's a habitual thing for me and has led me to some unhealthy relationships.
But anyway - we we talking about the potential downside to always wanting to jump in and help and what was your first reaction to the conversation ?

I apologize for thinking it's funny. I mean no disrespect and yes I will want some talk time soon. But i did laugh, just a little, and felt it would be dishonest not to fess up about it.
Thanks bunches TK

As I work my way through a divorce and try to get comfortable with my new life, I have to face the terrors of dating. I've never really done that before and it's really scary.

As I work my way through a divorce and try to get comfortable with my new life, I have to face the terrors of dating. I've never really done that before and it's really scary.
I wanted to date in high school but when I joined the chess club I pretty much snuffed out any chances I might have had. I tried to some when I was in the army but those WAC's were whack could beat me up. (just kidding - only one of them ever beat me up)
About the time I hit college I discovered BBS's. (an ancient precursor to social media for you youngsters) and never had to date. I'd meet someone, get to know them and then, well - you know...
I was away from computers for a long time. I met someone and we shacked up and then I fell in love with her. We had some great years and she really didn't feel comfortable with me going on the computer. So I shut down my AOL account and never regretted it for a minute.
Then she was sick for a long time. Then she died and I was devestated.
I had a few years that are kind of hazy. I drank a bit and hung out with a sketchy crowd but - meh... Then I had an old army buddy talk me into joining facebook.
It was good. It was bad. It was very good. It was very very bad. It did lead me eventually to the woman I married. I'm a little disappointed and, well, lets just say whiny right now, but I'll get over it. Hope was good to me and good for me and we just really didn't have a chance. We gave it our best and the baggage was just too heavy and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. (hopefully with a better outcome)
But now - Now I have to think about dating ! Yikes ! First impressions. Clean fingernails. Being on time for stuff. I just don't know if it's worth it.

Now that I've lost your attention completely. Check out this story. This is how people sometimes used to do selfies.

Good Morning and congrats on your "bokeh" picture in the hunt. I hesitate to comment since I don't participate and rarely even look at the results anymore. I just have to say though that I think you "wuz robbed"..

That is just gorgeous. Aside from that, it's top notch work in all the usual ways we critique pictures and fits the category in a way I can only describe as scrumptious.
Top that off with the observation that, and I'm not kidding, I thought I smelled the salt air as soon as I saw it. I felt the hot sun on my bald spot too and almost wanted to reach a hand out to shield the lens from glare and, well - you just did it here.
I'm running our of words that express what I think and feel and see in the glorious, magical, breath taking, etc.... thing that you did. I just can't understand how it wasn't the winner ???
ok there were some other pictures in the album -
I can only remember two of them though at this point
I'll remember the one you made
See ya at the beach...

Hi

Hi
I wasn't trying to cut you off or anything like that. I was sort of shooting for playful with maybe a touch of mysterious. If I came across as rude or something, I apologize.
BTW - the fringing was probably because the image was badly overexposed and I put it through the ringer. Boosted contrast, lowered gamma, raised saturation and played with curves. I then used a bump map and added the yellow light source up in the corner to give it the split toned look. Somewhere along the way I felt it was getting a far eastern feel so I just went with the flow and let it take me along for the ride.
Your critique was sublime and the follow up intriguing.
Thanks again. Theo
(or Ted ~ whichever seems to fit is fine)

Let me have it. Be brutal. The whole point is to get comfortable with criticism and that means dishing it out too.

Shot with a old cheap camera and processed in FastStone Viewer with way more "added features" than is reasonable. So ask away or just go for it, your choice.

RUST WEEPS

RUST WEEPS
I looked everywhere last week for my #rustysunday picture. As Gary Posner reminds us, it's all around us. I didn't want to just shoot things that were rusting to share with RustySunday though. I wanted to capture rusts spirit, its essence or the mark it leaves behind.
