Musically this piece always made me just a little uncomfortable. I love it but it just picks at my nervous system somehow. Todd Rundgren has often found a way to burrow into my brain and in this case he brings an atom bomb along...

The Point Was an awesome album. a great movie and one of those made for kids but not really pieces that are timeless clessics. This version has Dustin Hoffman narrating but I think Ringo did a better job.

Harry Nilsson was one of a kind. Ace songwriter, amazing singer and outrageous drinking comrade to the stars are just a few of the fine things on his resume. In 1971, he recorded an album called ‘The Point,’ which accompanied an animated film of the same name.‘The Point’ told the story of Oblio, a round headed boy living in the land of Point, a place where everybody and everything has “a point.” Oblio wears a pointed hat to conceal his “pointless” existence.

The Nazz, a hipsemantic retelling of the life of Christ

Originally shared by Hadrian Micciche

Lord Buckley - The Nazz
" A most immaculately hip aristocrat, Lord Buckley was the epitome of comedy cool; a onetime vaudeville performer and a hulking ex-lumberjack, he was a comic philosopher, a bop monologuist whose vocalese fused the rhythms and patois of the street with the arch sophistication of the British upper crust to create verbal symphonies unparalleled in their intricacy and dexterity. A comedian who didn't tell jokes and a word-jazz virtuoso riffing madly on the English language, Buckley combined the frenetic intensity of Beat poetry with the lessons and moral heft of Biblical tales and historical discourse; holding court over the hipsters, flipsters, and finger-poppin' daddies of the postwar era, he was a true visionary, the original rapper.

The jive-speak word jazz that Buckley spins with his lightning-yet-liquid delivery is so jam-packed and rapid-fire that it takes a few listenings to catch everything --but it rewards the effort.  Here is Buckley's legendary routine, The Nazz, a hipsemantic retelling of the life of Christ (the sweetest, gonest, wailinest cat that ever stomped on this sweet, swingin' sphere).

Gil Scott-Heron - I'm New Here
"One of the most important progenitors of rap music, Gil Scott-Heron's aggressive, no-nonsense street poetry inspired a legion of intelligent rappers while his engaging songwriting skills placed him square in the R&B charts later in his career. [1]

Perhaps his most famous song is The Revolution Will Not Be Televised, "an aggressive polemic against the major media and white America's ignorance of increasingly deteriorating conditions in the inner cities." [1]

This is not that song. Its the title track from his final album, released in 2010. The album is "a wallop filled with big nasty beats, a wide range of sonic atmospheres, and more -- sometimes unintentional -- autobiographical intimacy than we’ve heard from Gil Scott-Heron than ever before." [2] On this title track, we hear only the words of Gil Scott-Heron and one lone acoustic guitar. They are enough.

Long ago and far away (75-79 Japan,Texas,Mass and SoCarolina) I was a ditty-bopper. We "intercepted" foreign (morse code) military communication and thought we were extremely hot shit. I might never have joined facebook and ended up here except for some (one cuteie pie) old army buddies. (she's still a hottie btw)

In the late summer of '92 I found myself suddenly and gratefully employed. Hurricane Andrew had provided me with an opportunity to drive a truck. I drove a lot. He had also knocked out most of the radio stations in the area and the radio in the truck only got one station for most of the day. I got hooked on NPR. After a few weeks they moved the Radio Reading Service back to the "special" radio section and since I wasn't a blind truck driver I didn't get to listen without a "special" radio. (sigh)

I've got streaming audio and can download books and poetry all I want to now. I am still grateful for the exposure and was glad to find this source on the web. Check it out and see if your local station needs volunteers. (they do) And please - support your local NPR station.

I was invited to compose music for an independent film about a woman hovering between life and death after a car crash. Strangely... tragically...my best friend, my ex-wife, was, at that time, in exactly the same situation. I certainly knew the music I wanted to write - but wasn't sure I would be able to do it...

A little girl asked her Dad, "How did the human race appear?"
The Dad answered, "God made Adam and Eve and they had children,
and so was all mankind made.."
Two days later the girl asked her mother the same question.
The mother answered,
"Many years ago there were monkeys from which the human race evolved."

The confused girl returned to her father and said,
"Dad, how is it possible that you told me the human race was created by God,
and mom said they developed from monkeys?"
The father answered,
"Well, Dear, it's very simple. I told you about my side of the family
and your mother told you about hers."

I have someone in my circles who is dealing with some emotional issues. I know there's a circle for councelling or support group type stuff. This is a regular type, stand-up guy who is maybe a bit too immersed in social media and feeling some intense reaction to rejection and such. Any contacts that I could pass on would be appreciated. Thanks TK

It's fitting, in a way, that this celebration also overlaps with the annual International Noise Conference across the bridge at Churchill's Pub, because Cage was always sort of the hip person's composer. Working far out of the confines of the usual stuffy concert hall, his work explored ideas of chance, confrontation, and the very idea of music itself. Even after his death, he's the kind of avant-garde artist name-checked by rockers and other aesthetes who could only hope to be as totally boundary-pushing.

Your husband will die a violent death this year."

Visibly shaken, the woman stared at the psychic's lined face, then at the single flickering candle, then down at her hands. She took a few deep breaths to compose herself. She simply had to know.

She met the Tarot reader's gaze, steadied her voice and asked, "Will I get away with it?"

The Christian’s “Good-night” (“Sleep on, beloved”)

The Christian’s “Good-night” (“Sleep on, beloved”)
By Sarah Doudney (1841–1926)
SLEEP on, beloved, sleep on and take thy rest,
Lay down thy head upon thy Saviour’s breast;
We love thee well, but Jesus loves thee best;—
                        Good-night!

Calm is thy slumber as an infant’s sleep;        5
But thou shalt wake no more to toil and weep;
Thine is a perfect rest, secure and deep;—
                        Good-night!

Until the shadow from this earth is cast,
Until He gathers in His sheaves at last,        10
Until the Lenten gloom is overpast;—
                        Good-night!

Until the Easter glory lights the skies,
Until the dead in Jesus shall arise,
And He shall come—but not in lowly guise;—        15
                        Good-night!

Until, made beautiful by love divine,
Thou, in the likeness of Thy Lord, shalt shine,
And He shall bring that golden crown of thine;—
                        Good-night!        20

Only “Good-night,” beloved, not “Farewell”!
A little while, and all His saints shall dwell
In hallowed union, indivisible;—
                        Good-night!

Until we meet again before His throne,        25
Clothed in the spotless robe He gives His own;
Until we know, even as we are known;—
                        Good-night!
