Call Anyone (free) from a Google Plus post (or comment) with a single click!

#googleplustips

Did you know you could do this?  In retrospect I should've, but never thought about it.  But you can, you really can make single-click phone calls directly from within a Google Plus post or comment.  How, you ask?  It's actually quite simple.

All you have to do is enter a phone number into your G+ post/comment, in a formatted manner and people will be able to call you by simply clicking on that phone number.

Here's how this works:

1. You need to have Google Voice Chrome Extension  active (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/google-voice-by-google/kcnhkahnjcbndmmehfkdnkjomaanaooo?hl=en), and Google Voice account to go with it.
2. The phone shown in the post needs to be formatted, eg don't simply show it as 4251234567, instead show it as 425-123-4567 or (425)-123-4567 or even my favorite 425.123-4567, in other words - format it as normally a phone number would be formatted for readability.

That's really it.  Whenever someone sends you a post/comment with the phone number there - you'll see it as a link and clicking on it will launch the dialer and call the number.  It's pretty slick and works great.  try it.

Please keep in mind that the above prerequisite steps are for the person doing the dialing, not the person who created the post/comment.  So just by you inserting a phone number into your post - will NOT automatically ensure that everyone will be able to simply click on it to call you.  They'll need to have that Google Voice setup as described to do so.

However, since all of this is free (including the calling in US & Canada... you hear me Amanda Blain) - you can easily get your business clients set up with this kind of functionality and then create posts enabling people to easily call you on their phone with a single click, right from your Google+ post or comment.

I'd like to thank Gina VanLoon, who unintentionally made me realize that this is easily doable by simply replying to my post from Gmail with her signature having her name and her formatted phone number. Want her number? ;)

In an emergency situation, your phone might not have enough charge to open this app. However, install it anyway, and memorize as many parts as you can.

Ideally, you should really try to obtain a hardcopy of the FM3-05.70 and store it within a waterproof container, along with a pack or two of desiccants. But that manual is known to be somewhat thick, and thus impractical to carry everywhere.

This app allows you to read and (hopefully) memorize FM3-05.70 practically anywhere.

I suggest reading a chapter every night before going to bed. Unless you're an icky kind of guy...

Okay, so this is a terrible photo, but my point in taking it is to find out what kind of tree this is. I'm off the west coast of Canada, on Vancouver Island, if that helps.

Anyone know what it is? Happy Monday, all!

So I've been trying not to complain about the newest update to the g+ app on my phone. I know it's customary to bitch up a storm at every change and I though I'd give it a fair shake for a change. There are two things though that just don't cut it for me. Since nobody else has complained I guess I'll go ahead...

If I have to edit a comment before posting it the keyboard now covers the typing area so I can't see what my correction looks like.
Also the "new posts" button covers the write new post button.
Aside from that it's all just a matter of taste. I can chalk everything else up to just me being a grumpy old fart me.

What All Women Share in Common

A mass killing is never a good thing. The reaction to it, however, can tell us a lot about the state of society. Do we speak up in defense of the victims, or the victimizers? In the rush to defend the right to bear arms, or the innocence of the many over the guilt of the few, we can forget about the voices who can't defend themselves. At least, not anymore. The recent killing spree in Isla Vista by Elliot Rodger brings this issue to light with a vengeance.

No, not all men. Not all. Not even most. But yes, all women. All women have seen that dark face that can lurk even behind the face of a man who proclaims "I'm different!" This crazy shooter called himself the "Gentleman Supreme", as he spoke of his evil urges to slaughter them because they hadn't submitted to his desires. Women aren't just victimized by the guy with weird eyes lurking in a dark alley they ought not go down. They're victimized by friends, family, their own husbands; in secret or in public places in broad daylight while others go about their business turning a blind eye; in their homes, their offices, in an airport; by poor men and men of great wealth and influence alike.

It's not something we all like to talk about, and certainly not all the time, but an occasion like this brings the issue to the forefront. There is no FriendZone, only friends or people pretending to be your friend. There is no entitlement to sex or companionship with women. They're not here to serve our desires. Partnership and intimacy come from a basis of respect, and if you see women as objects to serve you in some way, then you don't respect women. And he who does not respect women has forgotten the face of his mother. Has abandoned his own humanity.

The Bible calls woman "Life" (Eve) and "Holy Spirit" (ruach). Hindus call woman shakti, "power", and elevates them to the power behind all men and all gods. The irony of this in terms of how India often treats women is laid bare in the "Abused Goddesses" campaign.

Behind Apollo (an Asian import), the Greeks built more temples to Hera than any other deity, and though literature may have called Zeus "King of the Gods", in reality he was an accessory figure in Hera's cult. Even his glorious son Heracles was, as his name literally means, "the Glory of Hera".

Women have been the bearers of life and the central rulers of domestic society since the dawn of our species, and yet for thousands of years they have been made to feel unsafe about their own ability to control their minds and bodies. To give or deny their emotions and bodies as they see fit, a privilege which most men enjoy by birthright.

You don't have to be a Militant Feminist to be militantly outraged that our society has for so long allowed this to happen. That even one man would ever think to defend a guy who kills because women would not submit themselves to him is proof that the problem isn't limited to the fringes.

Well, we made it to the weekend ! Happy #sketchgurusaturday. paula contreras posted a pic yesterday that she thought was not great but turned out fantastic when she "gurued" it. I took a shot I did like and just had fun with it using pixlr express. My new profile picture on the other hand was shot in a hangout with a very old very cheap webcam. I used "touch retouch" on that one.

Also some really are just silly and meant to be more amusing than serious entries. For example, photographer - I bet a whole bunch of hunters wouldn't get the darkroom reference anyway...
