I was thinking along those lines but had not put it together like that. my thought was, that to be a 'hoax bomb', he would have had to intend that people of reasonable intelligence would believe they were looking at a bomb despite it being a benign device. In that the school and authorities did not react as if they believed it was a bomb, the whole thing becomes ludicrous to the point of comedy.
I'm more curious about how quickly POTUS jumped in to the picture . . .

I sort of think he's just "trolling" right about now. In his place I probably would be. Maybe that's not a good thing, but then again, who knows ?
