UPDATE: 3/21/13 - 24 hours after caps were put in place, Google Plus has changed the restrictions on Animated GIFs from shown in the graph below. Larger and longer GIF's are being allowed in stream and on cover profile photos than stated in this graphic.  The specifics are yet to be determined. Thanks again to Yasuo Maeda for the head-up.


New Animated GIF Restrictions On Google+ Instituted

As of Yesterday evening, the 19th of March, new restrictions have been implemented by Google on Animated GIF sizes that will be able to be uploaded to your Google+ Stream and Profile Cover Photo.  Apparently some preexisting Animated GIFs have been affected by this change and are no longer working.  A big thanks goes out to Yasuo Maeda for creating the chart below indicating the maximum size of an animated GIF that can be uploaded and it's representative length in frames.
