The term “sacred harp” refers to the human voice — that is, the musical instrument you were given at birth.

Howler monkeys ♥
Howler monkeys (genus Alouatta monotypic in subfamily Alouattinae) are among the largest of the New World monkeys. Fifteen species are currently recognised. Previously classified in the family Cebidae, they are now placed in the family Atelidae. These monkeys are native to South and Central American forests. Threats to howler monkeys include human predation, habitat destruction and being captured for captivity as pets or zoo animals.

The Beatles' Christmas records were spoken and musical messages from English rock group The Beatles that were posted out on flexi disc at Christmas time to members of their official fan-clubs in the United Kingdom and the United States. One such record was issued each year from 1963 to 1969 and an LP compilation of all seven in 1970.

I'm listening to WCNI on my phone while I'm packing for a trip. I jumped into the middle of one of these Beatles records and was floored. I thought they might be the Bonzo Dog Band but thankfully the DJ gave up the credits. I'd have been up all night trying to find it.
thanks to Wikkipedia, Google, YouTube, Charlie (the DJ) and you guys...

Inevitably we will see endless discussion now about gun control. I would prefer to wait a while. Both sides seem to be ramping up the heat already so here is my two cents worth. I have met James Brady and listened with an open mind to his wife. I also knew (as a very young child) Charles Whitman. I am not a supporter of the NRA or against any reasonable limitations or changes to out gun laws.I'm just an open minded citizen and an armed liberal.

A police officer asked me once if there was anything in the car he should be aware of. I pointed out a bag containing my S&W .380 (with lock) and the separate pouch with the clip and spare ammo. He asked my why I had a gun with me. My answer was "in case I feel the need to kill someone".
He verified that my method of carrying it was legal and that it wasn't reported as stolen and gave it back. He thanked me for having the lock on it and went on his way.
If you want to discuss gun control, that's fine with me. I also keep a shotgun by my bed and I don't hunt or shoot for sport. I keep them for protection. They are good for me for one purpose only
If I were in that school I would have tried to stop that boy. More that likely, I would have died trying. I would still have to try. I would have a much better chance if I too were armed. Even if you take my guns, I would still have to try.
Thanks, that is my contribution to the discussion. Your turn now ?

Seriously, the "Not Pop" collection is freaky awesome. I don't want to pretend that this is in the same class, but I wanted to experiment with making a playlist and what the heck...If you like your #christmasmusic with a little swing to it, this might suit you.
Dan Hicks - a dance hall band from the Texas hill country, I've been a big fan for about thirty years.
Solomon Burke - such a sweet sound (and song)
Christmas in Florida - it pretty much nails it
Asleep at the Wheel - this one was the inspiration for this list
George Strait - just some sprinkles on your cookies

MCD - Formed in 96 in a garage (surprise) in Seattle. No quite my cup of coffee (I said Seattle - do they even have tea there ?) but this song really grabbed me. So many people are so depressed around this season and maybe that makes this one truely #holidaymusic or #christmasmusic but what ever it is #punkrockchristmas or just #garageband - I will be adding it to my playlist this year.

I posed a challenge to gather Christmas Music earlier. The results so far are quite tasty but the rewards go beyond the joy of receiving gifts. For me there is the wonder of new horizons to wonder about. The sense of excitement from exploration. The satisfaction of challenging oneself.

Our "Listener in Chief" demands much from us. I sometimes come here and think - "whah, I don't wanna do any work". But then, magic seems to happen. There is a gem, sparkling and glowing and crying out to be plucked and polished and enjoyed. This is just such a little treasure. I found it and squealed with delight and posted it in comments with a sense of abandon. I felt like an explorer of old - with a load of gold for the king....
That's likely what he's shooting for. Anyone can play a radio or ride in an elevator. (remember those days ?) But to feel the music - no to FEEL it, you have to get a little involved. Pay attention. Get curious. Don't just watch from the beach, grab a board and "Surf like there's no tomorrow

This is a truly inspired version of The Twelve days of Christmas. It's but one song on a collection that includes equally stunning versions of traditional holiday tunes.
In 1996, Jane Siberry gave a series of Wednesday night concerts at New York City's Bottom Line. Child: Music for the Christmas Season (1997) is the first release of that series.
The double live CD package is a wonderful alternative to otherwise often vapid holiday music. The music is Siberry's unique blend of folk and jazz, with a bit of pop. Mixing obscure christmas/yuletide related tunes and charming originals, Jane Siberry actually evokes the spirit of the season in her songs.
I hate holiday music. But this song. This song. Wow!

Here's a challenge. bring on your most unusual and/or obscure #holidaymusic and let's hear what doesn't make you cringe.
This is both topical and tropical. I can't find a recorded copy of it anywhere and the band is long since lost to history. I got this off an old jukebox by holding my laptop by the speakers. It cost me a round of drinks to get everybody in the bar to shut up for three minutes.

I suppose this marks a turning point for The Dropkick Murphys. Once you break down and do a Christmas Song can things ever be the same. I heard this on WMMS from Cleveland today and wanted to share.

Hi - I'm Ted or Theo and I've started a community centered around my state. I haven't pushed it yet but I think this one is a great Idea. I did something like this on facebook because the same troublemakers were stirring things up in a number of groups. When the admins. got together it was much easier to keep things civilized.

Hello
Hello
I'm not an artist but I have been known to kill off a bottle of Absinthe on occasion. You can call me anything but I usually answer to Ted, Tedd, Teddy (of course) or Theo.
Thanks for letting me hang out and I'll try not to drool on any ones sketch book.

The article itself is not really newsworthy. It must have been a slow day. What I find amusing is that the short on-air piece can be summed up with, "Redneck is biased against blacks, officials think it's not cool". A short read of the text show this guy probably re-posted a "memo" poking "fun" at black, latino, and Muslims and city hall seems to think it is hilarious.

Gladys Wilson, who has defended Sims before, said the commissioner has a great sense of humor and wouldn't aim insults specifically at any ethnic group. She called the Facebook post a "light-hearted joke."
sigh - still not news worthy considering the demographics but funny in that Cooper City is right next door to Weston - home of Debbie Wasserman Schultz...

I just got my ass handed to me on facebook. It seems that you my not use this as an example of first world problems because there is no evidence that she is crying about getting the wrong phone. Perhaps she is crying about something else and heck there is no gift wrapping paper in the picture so it seems that I am both gullible and a hater too.

While I won't deny either of those things, I'd like to ask a favor. Can anyone find a reference to the actual situation depicted here. I have exhausted my search skills.
PS I'm not really a hater. I just lay one on facebook sometimes.
I hate it when I go (again) to someones profile in search of just one good reason to uncircle them and find things like this. May God bless you Mr. Armour. I may not respect your politics but there is good in your heart.

The theme of this first Sunday is Hope. I have many blessings in my life and count Hope as one of the most important.

My camera skills do not do justice in this case. It was superb. (as is usually the case at Pete's)

Why is this cat wearing what appears to be a net of Christmas tree lights? Simple, it's a mini Faraday cage to protect him from the space aliens. It works too. Besides, tin-foil hats look too silly for cats...
