I was looking into Iona for #sacredsunday because of it's early Christian roots and my interest in anything related to Ireland. There is plenty to choose from in that regard. The Celts and the Picts and the Vikings have all left their marks even before it became a world famous center of learning and even today it draws pilgrims in droves.

I found out though that it was considered a sacred place and drew people to it in great numbers long before the age of Christ. The info is not so easy to find but the "pull" is there. Open your senses and you can feel it too.  Take a peek and feel the allure of  - Iona an ancient and current spiritual center of the human experience.

  1. there is also the tendency with the early church, to take whatever site considered holy by the 'old' religion! and re-brand it.
one of the main reasons we celebrate Christmas =winter solstice.

in fact no more than when one company is purchased by another, one of the first things that occurs is a name change, followed by a general house cleaning, and getting assets transferred. no surprise that even religion seeks to bury the opposition, under their own fresh wallpaper.

If you want to take it a step further, each age of man, each empire! has built into it's foundations the rubble of past kingdoms.
