The original Friday the Thirteenth is based on Friday 13 October 1307, the day the French king and the Pope attempted to annihilate the Knights Templar, who went into hiding in Scotland and transformed into the Frere Masons (Brother Masons, the r got lost so it became Free Masons). Betrayed by the king, they advocated democracy. Betrayed by the pope, they developed and supported protestantism. The founders of the United States were all Masons.
