G+ LeapYear 2012 - Day in the life of G+
I posed this question late last night. Only one person responded. As is often the case, quality trumps quantity. But I'll bring it up again to satisfy my own curiosity.

Fluffy Question of the Day
Have you ever been a Crab in a bucket?
Okay, this one needs some background, umkay? If you have ever been to a Crab Boil on the beach, after catching a bucket full of fresh Crab, you already know what I mean, but for the unlucky frozen-crab eating crowd, I will explain.
If you have a bucket full of live Crab, you can watch an entertaining little dance going on within the bucket. Crabs near the top of the bucket could easily escape and potentially save their lives before the pot of water nearby reaches a boil, and they are all tossed in to their deaths.
It is a very rare thing, for a Crab to escape the bucket, because should one Crab reach the edge and begin to lift himself over the side, the other Crabs will grab onto him and pull him back down. It is their nature to not allow another Crab to get away, insuring that all of the Crabs die together.
This sadly, is also a very real human phenomenon.
Take those who would do away with Home Schooling or School Vouchers for private education. Two things with proven successful track records. Arguments are made that it is unfair for some to succeed while others cannot, and attempt to keep all children stuck in that bucket waiting to die a painful death.
In the Black community, there are still children ostracized for "acting white" if they speak correctly, get good grades, etc, regardless of how it might affect their futures.
This sort of thing goes on everywhere, and having experienced some of it myself, I thought I'd ask if any of you, have been fortunate enough to have made it out of that bucket, and made something of yourself in spite of those who would keep you stuck in that bucket with them?
Tell me!

Some of those women are your daughters and sisters and yes - maybe even your mothers. Sign please - a 5$ donation wouldn't hurt either...

First Cats: The prejudice against cats in our political process has long been overlooked. A great deal of attention is given to the “first dogs” who served in the White House, but very little press is said of our “first cats.” Cat lovers believe the answer to this mystery is simple: Dogs are publicity hounds, but cats prefer to work behind the scenes.

Racism ? -or just bat shit crazy.... You decide.
I saw a version of this on a friends fb wall. The article had been removed and my curiosity overpowered my outrage. So I started digging. 1st I found this version and the outrage came back up and I almost shared it "as is". My curiosity was still tugging at my attention thought and I found this:
http://www.14th-amendment.com/Miscellaneous/Letters/Private/Letter_To_Federal_Election_Commission_[06-18-08].pdf
Gordon Warren Epperly
P.O. Box 34358
Juneau, Alaska 99803
June 18, 2008
Federal Election Commission
999 E Street, NW
Washington, DC 20463
To whom it may concern:
This is a letter of complaint.
It appears that we have entered into a period of history where a Candidate for
the Office of the President of the United States does not have the qualifications of Office
as required by U.S. Constitution, Article II, Section 1, Clause 5. /
1
Candidates
John McCain and Barack Hussein Obama, Jr., are not “natural born” citizens nor are
they citizens of the United States at the time the Constitution was adopted.
It seems that Mr Epperly may be an equal opportunity "hater" after all. So what did I take away for this. What do I think YOU should all agree with me on since I put a good five minutes into researching this issue. (and I'm always right)
Don't trust ANY crazy old dudes from really big states who believe in libertarianism at at all costs and a strict interpretation of of the constitution as a dead language.

Falling Star
“So it goes a little something like this,” said Charlie the janitor. “You’ve got your basic debris bombarding your brain, and then you’ve got the prime stuff that falls from somewhere else.” He leaned back on the broom, nudging a pile of invisible dust forward marginally as he did, the angle of handle and bristle and lanky elbow precisely calculated to support his weight. “We don’t know where it all comes from — you can call it anything you want: muse, inspiration, idea heaven. Whatever suits you. But it all comes down like rain.”
We sat around him like children, crosslegged and kneeling, listening. He shifted his broom again, leaning forward. “The trick isn’t catching only the really good ones. That’s like trying to catch a specific raindrop in a storm. The trick is catching all of them.” A grin flashed across his dark features and disappeared. “You have to be listening all the time. Looking all the time. Good ones will sort themselves out. Now get. I’ve got work to do.”
The broom swept forward and we scattered; we would have sent up trails of dust if there had been dust to make them with. Charlie’s moods were like that, and space save you if you caught the wrong one. There was no telling what would take him when; there was no particular reason why we should believe any particular piece of sage bullshit he spouted off at any given time. Sometimes he liked playing the old wise man, and sometimes he liked playing the lift attendant on a station with no lifts. And sometimes, he was brilliant.
You never knew with Charlie. We’d never known with Charlie. Back in the old days, when he had an office and a desk and classes to teach, sometimes he’d show up and sometimes he wouldn’t. Sometimes he’d spend the entire hour of lecture swearing at the students in Abingi or Erd; sometimes he’d solve theorems and deconstruct quanta; sometimes he’d sing. And sometimes he’d disappear for days: a feat worth noting in a four-ringed disk a mile across and fifty feet thick. It wasn’t like he could just step out for a breath of fresh vacuum.
But that was before. Before, when he’d been brilliantly eccentric. We’d made excuses and covered classes and listened to the opera of the stars that he’d composed for mellophone and snare, because we all really believed in him. We believed in his brilliance and his magic, in his research and his quanta, but most of all we believed he could save us. Three hundred of us, believing in Charlie, because we didn’t know what else to believe in: all of us breathing and working and sleeping and eating and carrying out our lives secure in the knowledge that Charlie was eccentric, but he was brilliant. Knowing that Charlie would save us.
Nobody knew what happened to change that. One day we woke up and his desk was gone, and his office was empty, and number six airlock was churning out a room-sized load of debris into the star-studded void, and Charlie was pushing a broom. He wouldn’t tell anyone why — all he would say was “Some jobs need doing more than others” — and if you pushed him, he’d wield the broom like a fiber-tipped lance, so we all stopped asking. For a while he wore his khakis and his sport coat, but when the knees wore out he got hold of a roll of denim and made some coveralls. He kept his head down and the floors clean. He polished the chrome: the people who make stations and don’t go on them like a lot of chrome and gleaming surfaces; the people who live on them prefer something you can get a grip on when the grav generators go out. He kept it neat.
And sometimes he would talk. Never about the things he used to — quanta and theorems and equations full of squiggly lines and dots — but about stars, and ideas, and distance, and lights. Things you couldn’t put your fingers on. Things you couldn’t see and couldn’t touch. And he always started off the same way: “It goes a little something like this.” Then he’d launch into the middle of it. Maybe he’d talk for an hour, maybe for thirty seconds, but we all stopped and listened and soaked it all in. Catching it all. Sorting out the bullshit later.
And the problem was: we still believed. Sixty years gone of the hundred on the clock, and we still believed Charlie would save us.
-----
Prompt: "So it goes a little something like this:" said Charlie the janitor. Charlie was an academic but couldn't cope with the pressure and the panic attacks he would get at work, so he changed profession for something much less demanding.

Why do so many resist the 99% ?
The Orchard House Speech of Doris "Granny D" Haddock -an excerpt
Here it is: those in the clan of authority are not given the privilege--the natural right--of living their own lives. They do as they are told, say and think what they are told. Smothered is their curiosity and their healthy skepticism, and also their imagination, joy, freedom, and lust for life itself. When they see others actually living lives, they react with anger, as if someone had cut to the front of a line that, for them, never moves.

Along with millions of aging Boomer women, I've been watching the Tea Party yanking on the rudder, intent on steering the ship of State back to the bad old days. The days when men were men and women were women and we all knew what that meant - and were too scared to say anything. At least if you were a woman who didn't want to get hit. Or something worse.
But, it's nigh on to impossible for me to sit by silently while state legislators - including women legislators - say things like, "Abstinence and condoms are the best family planning options for poor people." It makes me feel crazy when I hear things like that. Especially after 50+ years of fighting for the civil rights of poor people and women of all colors and ages.
When I feel crazy, I look around for elders. People who have suffered the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune for longer than I have. One whose clear vision and courage has filled me with hope and fueled my resolve since I first met her trekking across the country in her late 80s is Doris Haddock, AKA Granny D.
I just rediscovered this transcript of a speech she made at Orchard House, Home of the Alcotts, back in October, 2005. It's filled with clear vision - and deep insight - about what's really going on with our national politics right now.
Pull up a chair: it's a great read!

Many of our actions seem to say we think we are more significant than the next person; that our lives and schedules are more important than some else’s. We often inconvenience other people to make our own lives easier and don’t give a thought to the impact of our actions on others.

These tensions were apparent in 1948 when Pakistan's government declared that Urdu was the sole national language. This sparked protests amongst the Bengali-speaking majority in East Pakistan. The government outlawed the protests but on February 21, 1952, students at the University of Dhaka and other activists organized a protest. Later that day, the police opened fire at the demonstrators and killed four students. These students' deaths in fighting for the right to use their mother language are now remembered on International Mother Language Day.

Individually, like any minority group, men may be okay, but.... Well put them together and they just seem to screw everything up. Don't get me wrong, some of my best friends are guys but....
How about it ladies ? Had enough of our b/s yet ? Are you ready to clean this mess up ? Start with the government. All three branches, please and let us see what happens when the 51% becomes the super-majority.

… for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you took me in, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and in prison and you visited me. …. For truly I say to you, if you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me (Matthew 25 ).

The Fable of the Porcupine
There once was a winter so cold that many animals succumbed to the frost and died alone. But the porcupines decided to come together to keep each other warm, even though the quills of each one wounded those closest to them.
After a while, they decided to distance themselves from each other but they, too, began to die, alone and frozen. So they made a choice: to accept the quills of their companions and live with the small wounds caused by the close relationship with one another in order to receive the warmth that comes from being together.

There has recently been considerable controversy about the classification of Pluto. It was classified as the ninth planet shortly after its discovery and remained so for 75 years. But on 2006 Aug 24 the IAU decided on a new definition of "planet" which does not include Pluto.

Money Talks but Chocolate Sings (anon)
I have a new delightful friend, I am most in awe of her.
When we first met I was impressed, By her bizarre behavior.
That day I had a date with friends, We met to have some lunch.
Mae had come along with them, All in all ... a pleasant bunch.
When the menus were presented, We ordered salads, sandwiches, and soups.
Except for Mae who circumvented, And said, Ice Cream, please: two scoops.
I was not sure my ears heard right, And the others were aghast.
Along with heated apple pie, Mae added, completely unabashed.
We tried to act quite nonchalant, As if people did this all the time.
But when our orders were brought out, I did not enjoy mine.
I could not take my eyes off Mae, As her pie a-la-mode went down.
The other ladies showed dismay, They ate their lunches silently, and frowned.
Well, the next time I went out to eat, I called and invited Mae.
My lunch contained white tuna meat, She ordered a parfait.
I smiled when her dish I viewed, And she asked if she amused me.
I answered, Yes, you do, But also you confuse me.
How come you order rich desserts, When I feel I must be sensible?
She laughed and said, with wanton mirth, I am tasting all that's possible.
I try to eat the food I need, And do the things I should.
But life's so short, my friend, indeed, I hate missing out on something good.
This year I realized how old I was, She grinned, I've not been this old before.
So, before I die, I've got to try, Those things for years I had ignored.
I've not smelled all the flowers yet, There's too many books I have not read.
There's more fudge sundaes to wolf down And kites to be flown overhead.
There are many malls I have not shopped, I've not laughed at all the jokes.
I've missed a lot of Broadway hits, And potato chips and cokes.
I want to wade again in water, And feel ocean spray upon my face.
Sit in a country church once more, And thank God for His grace.
I want peanut butter every day, Spread on my morning toast.
I want UN-timed long-distance calls, To the folks I love the most.
I've not cried at all the movies yet, Nor walked in the morning rain.
I need to feel wind in my hair, I want to fall in love again.
So, if I choose to have dessert, Instead of having dinner.
Then should I die before night fall, I'd say I died a winner.
Because I missed out on nothing, I filled my heart's desire.
I had that final chocolate mousse, Before my life expires.
With that, I called the waitress over, I've changed my mind, it seems.
I said, I want what she is having, Only add some more whipped-cream!

This is disgusting. That something like this was even proposed, let alone passed just goes to show how far gone this country is. This is figuratively, and quite literally driving a wedge even further between the opposing viewpoints trying to cohabitate in the US in 2012. This is the kind of thing that doesn't just go away. People don't forget things like this. This just makes things worse.
Nice work Virginia.

The focus of Folk & Acoustic Music is to create a community to support folk music. Throughout history, folk music has traveled in small circles, passed primarily by singing families who did not knowhow to write them down. Even today, folk music is obscure and hard to find. Through folk music, our history and culture is revealed in songs and stories.

Facebook Users Ask, ‘Where’s Our Cut?’
Facebook Users Ask, ‘Where’s Our Cut?’
By my calculation, Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook's founder and chief executive, owes me about $50.
Without me, and the other 844,999,999 people poking, liking and sharing on the site, Facebook would look like a scene from the postapocalyptic movie "The Day After Tomorrow": bleak, desolate and really quite sad. (Or MySpace, if that is easier to imagine.)

Dump Your Significant Jerk Day - Dump Your Significant Jerk Day is the first day of Dump Your Significant Jerk Week, which is held the entire week before Valentine's Day, February 5 -11 for 2012. If you're in a bad relationship, this is your week to end it once and for all. It's your chance to tell Mr.or Ms. "Your Not All That" to take a long walk off a short pier, make like a bee and buzz off, make like a loaf of French bread and baguette, make like a . . . well, you get the picture.

I am Catholicish
I try to universally value all people.
I try to understand my relationship with God
I try to be grateful for what I have and share it
I pray every day. Sometime several times.
I try really hard to forgive
When I die find a cute necrophiliac and give my body to her.

Wednesday morning I got up and turned on the TV. I like to check the weather and traffic before I go off to work. It was so nice to have a solid 1/2 an hour of politics free TV (our primary was on Tues.)

The appearance of sweeping intergalactic felines could give rise to a new wave of scientific misinterpretation, and it does skeptics like myself no good spending time explaining their insignificance when there are far bigger concerns in the world, such as global warming, or reality television.

On the morning of February 3, 1943, Reverand George Fox, Rev. Clark Poling, Father John Washington, and Rabbi Alexander Goode, like Rabbi Akiva before them, died for the sanctification of the Divine Name. In sacrificing their lives so that four others would live, they fulfilled the commandment of the Shema to love the Lord their God while God was taking their souls.

Many people believe that some of Candlemas’ activities stem from pagan observances such as Imbolc, a Gaelic festival, or the Roman feast of Lupercalia.

Day 1 Prompt
Because I have a tired, I'm going to post the first prompt early and hit the sack. For those of you who are new to my month-long daily prompt projects... welcome! The way this usually rolls is that I post the image late in the evening my time (I am in EST) or in the morning. You (and I) write during the day, and post our results. Put a link to your posted result in the comments on the prompt image post. Commenting on each other's work is welcomed and encouraged - there was some great work that came out of the Nightmare Fuel project that began all this as a result of encouragement, support, and constructive criticism where requested. :)
As has been previously mentioned, you are not tied only to prose fiction; feel free to write poetry, to create visual poetry, haikus, whatever you're inspired to do. Most folks who follow these projects are prone to fiction, so I expect that is mostly what we'll see. :)
If you have images you would like to contribute to this (or other) project(s), please send them to bliss.morgan@gmail.com with the project name as the subject line - but please only send me an image of your own, or one with a link to the source so I can give appropriate attribution.
Today's image is from fukumix on Flickr, shared under an Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs Creative Commons license. The original image can be found at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/fukumix/4452576461/ Per the license, if you reshare this image along with what your write from this prompt, please keep the attribution info intact.
