One grate you can just make out and one you can not see at all. For #grateartwednesday I found this "air-grate" to share with Grate Art Wednesday and all around grate guys Gary Posner and David Washington
A couple a different pictures from a short trip I took yesterday. The Cover shot is SOOC (straight out of camera) using a "wide view" setting. This is done holding the camera in portrait view mode. The other two are from the same set or four shots. The one I used "hugin" for took about 15 minutes to complete and has some obvious problems. The last one I did using a free Microsoft program called ICE. It only took about 8-10 minutes and came out better I think.

I really miss the old Google+. I always wonder what part is going to get "improved" next. BTW- I made a new definition for the UD !
Lingchi: Death by a thousand cuts. The Slow Death. Traditional Chinese form of torture and execution reserved for the most heinous crimes. Also the process that Google is using on Google + since it left the beta phase. A slow lingering process whereby useful features are sliced off one piece at a time. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Lingchi
Does this picture "speak" to you ? Does it imply a story to you, or do you hate it ? I'd like to get your take on it. Even if it's a simple, "Meh"... It was a dreary and drizzly day and I was starting to feel my inner "fine art photographer" emerging. If only I had dried off my lens this shot might have worked. It was washed out, out of focus and unusable. Obviously, a perfect candidate for "sketching" I tossed it out long ago, but google kept a copy in my photos. I used GIMP to emboss it and then layered a posterized copy on top. I boosted the colors and contrast and set it at about 80%. Then I used the stained glass filter in G'MIC several different way that I hated. After a few tries I managed to get this. Feel free to critique from a processing or artistic position all you want. Write a story or ask a question. Original image available below if you want to play with it yourself. https://goo.gl/v7Te3Q
Christian Madsen Shared a picture earlier that got me thinking. Any comments, criticism or suggestions are welcome. This was a not quite good enough shot I took one rainy day. I erased it long ago but it was still lurking in my google photos and I thought I'd have some fun with it. I believe I embossed it and layered a posterized image over that. Then I boosted the saturation and stain glassed it in G'MIC.
Resurrecting an idea from the previous RawTherapee forums: PlayRaw!
Making raw files available for everyone to practice and share their results on! This first try I am releasing my Mairi Troisieme portrait raw file for the community to play with. Come get the file and share how you might approach processing it!
** Dear Trumplings: Actually this memo is not written to, or for, you at all. I can't reach you. Haters gotta hate. Nothing I can do about that. I know this picture is going to upset you and well, that's just going to have to be enough for now. Not a violent a...
Almost caught up with this one. Same moon, different night - and settings... lol

I'm a little behind for a variety of reasons. Aside from that - you should have seen the one (or three) that got away. I can always count on the bears though...

Here's an example of a slower vs a faster shutter speed. The slower speed looks dreamier and the quicker one shows more detail on the water drops. If you were taking a picture of fireworks and had the shutter set very fast, you might not get the entire shot since it takes maybe a half second or so to see the trails of color. I read this over a couple of day recently and thought it covered a lot of ground in an easy to digest sort of way. I bookmarked it and read a page or two every day as a sort of refresher. You should take a look at it, there are some cool pix and a cool way to think about images. http://photography.bastardsbook.com/toc/

Still playing around with my newish "walking around" camera. I was a block away and across the street and still couldn't get the whole chimney in the wide shot.
Two For One SOOC with my new (to me) Pentax X-5 with flash set to slow.
Any guesses about the caption ?

I had to replace my old "walking around" camera. The lens locked up on my Canon SX130 and sometimes the DSLR kit is just too much. So I got a Pentax X-5 today for about a hundred, including shipping, off of ebay. This was my very first shot. I'm pretty pleased with it so far. It takes a fair macro - and will focus down to 1 cm. away and zooms out to over 500mm (equivalent). It's a little slow and needs lots of light, but otherwise - I'd recommend it for a decent "travel" or back-up.
I can't yet bring myself to take to elections seriously. In fact, just yesterday I wrote, but didn't complete., an idea that it was about time for somebody to get a puppy. Nothing says, "Vote for me" quite like having a big old goofy puppy dog right by your side. right ? Staring up at you and showing how lovable you really are, and just begging for a treat, gosh it's just so darn cute !
And then it happened. The Donald went and got him one...
I haven't done a #treetuesday picture in a very long time. I saw right through this tree though and played around with the image a little. Any thoughts one the different pix would be appreciated.
