Strictly speaking this is a ducted fan, not a jet per se - Coandă's claims notwithstanding. Even if you add an afterburner (which is what is claim is), you are still relying on a separate power source to run the primary source of thrust.
That said, a ducted fan, for low-speed aircraft, is a very useful technique.
