I am not a fan of Snowden. This has opened up my mind just a teensy tiny bit though, and that's always a good thing. If you click on this, watch the whole show. Oliver at his best - oh and there are #dickpics

  1. Why aren't you a fan of Snowden?

  2. Several reasons. The biggest IMO is that I consider him to be a coward. As he has assumed the role of significant role model, his cowardice encourages impressionable (young) people to act cowardly. Is that what we really need to aspire to. IMHO - not.

  3. ted kelly how is he a coward?

Isn't it considered a brave act to reveal the atrocities of the current world military empire?

  4. He worked for a private contractor collecting data I don't even think the state has a right to. He blew the whistle, and he's in hiding. Obama should be more friendly to whistleblowers, as he promised.

  5. All good points that I wont argue against. Who knows, maybe someday I'll soften my opinion of his behavior. I just would rather my heroes act like, well - heroes.

  6. All my heroes have mugshots. What does a hero look like to you?

  7. Not hiding would be a start. Hell, Chelsie Manning is a better man than this guy.

  8. Chelsea Manning is buried under a prison. There is honor in hiding, as there is honor in prison, but neither should be the penalty for following your conscience.

  9. There is little inspiration for me in hiding behind your mothers skirts. (figuratively) At least one day Manning will walk out of prison while Snowden may be stuck in his own for the rest of his life.
I personally in his place would come back and defend my position and if that didn't work then hope for jury nullification. In any event, I'd want to be proud of what I had done and be prepared to face the consequences. Sort of like Daniel Ellsberg did with the Pentagon Papers for example.
Feel free to disagree though. I seek not to change your opinion of him or what actions he took, only to explain my own. Perhaps my military service has left me with some bias. I used to be a spy myself. (of sorts)

  10. I have far less respect for the state hiding behind mother's skirt. Those who lift mother's skirt from the state have a special place in my heart.

My father was Navy, in Vietnam. I'm more proud of his mugshots. Not sure he ever earned a medal, couldn't care less.

I cant say more about him without pissing you off so I'll just leave it as - hey if you are one of those who love him then okay - I just can't go there. But that's just me and a very few others.
