I have "unfollowed" 90% of my fb "friends. I have "unliked" 2/3 of my hometown news sources. I've turned off notifications from almost every group and page - including ones I started.

I think it's just a phase I'm going through...

    Always glad to be of service. Don't forget too, that you can unfollow them. That way they may still see your cool stuff but you won't see their yucky stuff.

    Don't forget the other irritant - every dingbat App wants access to FB.  And the groups - once it gets bigger, all rubbish gets posted.  I think if a group gets more than 700 members, it is time to get out of that group.
