  1. A lot of photags in the petapixel comments say it's a good photo. No, it isn't. One has to really really try hard, and squint, in order to see what it is a photo of. The photographer needed a stop-motion strobe to finish with enough detail to set aside the guessing. Strobes are not allowed at figure-skating events, so that's not an option. I'm certain the photographer tried more than one shutter speed, and for some reason, he -- or his editor -- went with this one. The guy did 'try' and did not do all that well. Were I the photo editor looking for a hero shot, this one would have been rejected. I can see it as a screened background, behind text. The lesson we can all learn from this: never show your crappy shots.

  2. Walter Hawn Why is your opinion any more valid then those who like the photo?

I saw the photo. I liked it. Some people didn't like it. It's not an argument. My input stops there.

  4. I believe that the viewer has just as much ownership of the experience. I also think that the true test of a shot like this isn't weather or not people like it, but how much they do or don't.
By that yardstick, I'd say it was a remarkable shot. I'd be tickled pink if more peeps would weigh in like Walter did. It reminds of the old days when The Plus was teeming with discussions and a more exciting place.
OH ~ BTW, I like it too.

  5. I love it - yes, it's abstracted, but it says so much about the grace and form of this skater. But, then, I'm a big fan of intentional blur in photography.

  6. I like it a lot. I'm ok with people hating it. Just don't come off like your opinion is the only one that matters.
