  1. We need prison reform system, too bad we're losing millions of people with no chance of rehabilitation.

  2. 'no chance of rehabilitation. ' --> rehabilitation can only happen, when the convict admits his guilt and repents for his action.

Nowhere in the letter does Ray Jasper III admits to any wrong doing - while in fact, he was present during the killing and subsequent robbery.

In fact, he says since his fellow gang-banger who cut the victims neck got off with life, he, Jasper, shouldn't be executed.  Rest all is whining, moaning, cr@p

You can read about the Saint Ray Jasper III and his crimes here:

Effin Bleeding Hearts, they are worse than the killers.

  3. In reading the entire letter, if I were to have seen Jasper show a smidgen of empathy for his victim and the victim's family, I'd have given his long letter some credibility. Typically, he blames the system for his own actions. When looking at the total story of how Jasper planned this horrific crime, recruited help and initiated the violence upon the victim, this letter is glaring proof that he needs to be erased from society. Showing absolutely no remorse, apology or responsibility for his actions, I'm tempted to believe the true travesty here is that it has taken so very long to put this piece of shit down.

  4. I can't say that I agree with either if the last two view points. I also don't believe it matters to anyone but me so I'll just say that I respect the fact that reasonable people can have different opinions and still understand the importance of trying to understand each other with respect.

I'm providing a link here to a story that also is somewhat contrary to what I would like to believe. This one is from someone whose opinion actually does matter, are least to my understanding of the case.

  5. Respectfully, for many years I was totally against the death penalty, no matter what the facts were. As I grew, a realization emerged that there are those that are of pure evil who will never be a fit in society. I'd love to live in a society that has no need for the death penalty. The hard learned reality is we will continue to have it as long as there are Jaspers within this society.

  6. ted kelly Good job of presenting the victims side.  Jasper has good writing skills (even better than mine) and reading Steven Alejandro's letter can understand why so.  I fully agree with Steven Alejandro's statement in there - Oppose Death Penalty, if that is your conviction; But don't make Ray Jasper your spokesman.

For the record, I have always held that there are some people full of pure evil, who need to be put down, just like a mad, rabid dog has forfeited its right to live.

Reading Jasper's letter again, sort of made be recoil once more with revulsion.  That guy neatly twists the law to suit his own predicament, when he writes that the law effectively enforces death for felony and not for the capital crime by itself.

  7. mad madrasi - After all these years to reflect on his crime, Jasper's letter shows he still believes what he said to the family of the victim in the courtroom. He isn't guilty because he didn't technically kill him. Reminds me of a story from long ago. The newlywed wife insisted she did not kill her husband that she pushed over a cliff because it was the broken neck he received in the fall that did. The jury didn't buy that one either.

  8. I am against capital punishment, yet I sometimes feel that there are individuals for whom I could throw the switch. I don't know how to resolve those two ideas. I do believe that if any of us think that anyone deserves to die for any reason, we are no different than Jasper.I guess that means that in a way - I am Jasper.

  9. ted kelly " if any of us think that anyone deserves to die for any reason, we are no different than Jasper" --> I don't think so.  Jasper did it (robbery and killing) for no other reason, but for personal enrichment.  He did it for selfish reasons.  He had no thought for the well being of others, for safety of others, or of harming others.  Jasper killed David for only 1 reason - that he, Jasper, should not be IDed.

When I or you feel like throwing the switch, it is exactly the opposite.  We are worried about the safety of others.  That letting Jasper get away (and be released one day) would probably endanger the well being of an innocent.  The classic case of Peter Parker/Spiderman guilt trip.

There is a difference.  Endorsing Jasper's execution doesn't make anyone a Jasper - that is once again an argument used by opponents of Death Penalty to justify their stand.

  10. Howard Eldridge Well said.  Ultimately every murderer may offer the defence - 'I'm not guilty, because it is the victim's heart which stopped beating'.

  11. ted kelly - It is difficult to resolve the conflict. For me, it took a very up close look at watching a family disintegrate when one of their own was murdered. Something you don't wish to happen to anyone. Watching such a situation and being helpless in making it all go away deepens a resolve to stop these affronts from the garbage that inflicts such pain.

  12. mad madrasi - When I read that Jasper stated he did this so that he could get an apartment for him and his girlfriend, I had to ask myself 'What about the next month's rent'? Would it be some innocent at a gas station? I wonder how relieved the jury was that this Einstein was off the streets.

You are 100% correct that the safety of others should be society's paramount concern. It seems that there are way too many Jaspers out there anymore. What makes me spit is that society has spent a ton of money and time going through this crap of insuring this killer's rights. Now, if there was no confession, witnesses or evidence I might feel it was time and money well spent. For these Jaspers though, I wouldn't have spent more than 50 cents for the solution about 10 minutes after his sentence was passed down.
